All the treasures I found at the Gohar World archive sale
Nadia and Laila Gohar keep stealing my coins! 🦢
This is the debut of Field Trip, a series where I detail my IRL experience at a specific design destination, from flea markets and sample sales to studio visits and gallery tours.
Every year, I set out on the quest that is the annual Gohar World archive sale. The first time that I embarked on this journey was in 2023 with my friend Rachel, the destination was a small studio located in Two Bridges. We left feeling giddy with bags full of food candles, sponges, and tissue covers—thankfully I can’t find the receipt, but my bounty probably cost around $100 or less. Since then, I’ve made a point to drop everything whenever an announcement hits my inbox and promptly get my affairs in order for a guilt-free shopping experience. Last summer, I attended the sale with my friend Sarah and scored the Bottle Basket from the Gohar World x Super Yaya collab for $125. My current approach is more discerning so I only buy what I really need if the price is right.
This morning, Sarah and I met outside the Gohar World studio in Tribeca a few minutes before noon and were surprisingly the first people in line so we already off to a beautiful start. Once we were buzzed upstairs, I sort of short circuited as I tried to figure out where to begin—I’m always overwhelmed when I see rows of tables covered with bins and stacks. I quickly scanned the price sheet for guidance on where my starting point should be and then headed toward the back where most of the tabletop items were located.
I’d been eyeing the cutlery pouches for quite some time so I grabbed two since they were $20/pair along with a matching plate cover with baroque pearls. I almost missed the small stack of lace coasters, but snatched a pair with pink beads even though I wasn’t sure of the price because a doily is always a good idea. (By the time I completed a loop around that table they were all gone so evidently I was correct.) Right as I was about to checkout, I asked Nadia if there were any Shirt Tablecloths up for grabs and she pulled one out from a bin hidden underneath an unmarked table—it had some small wax stains on it because it was used as a store display, but she assured that it could be removed and offered to sell it for $20(!) which I would’ve been a fool to turn down. My grand total was $119.76 after tax, not a bad way to start the weekend.
Gohar World’s archive sale is today and tomorrow from 12-7pm at 73 Hudson Street.
